Life Update (cw trauma dumping about predators):

i’ve been working at getting this one out forever. i was getting pretty close back in October, but then i was hit with back-to-back drama from within the circle of friends i’d finally made in my new town. First, we lost our primary social hub, which left me feeling a bit lost and depressed, albeit managably so. However, behaviors on the outside started to spiral until it was impossible to ignore, and it was eventually uncovered that one person -who i had considered to be quite close- had been grooming younger people more than 10 years his junior, as well as a number of other disturbing and predatory acts that i’ll withold for the sake of other folk’s privacy. These events had affected my mental health quite a bit, but each coming week and month have has been easier and more productive than the one before, and i still have the rest of my friends with whom i’ve developed a keen trust after trauma-bonding over this fucked situation lololol

About this chapter though: The final scene is a bit awkward with the timeline jump showing what Gabriel and Sammael’s friendship was actually like before (plus the scene before that revealing more insight into what Gabriel’s friendship with Azrael is like). The abrupt changes mid-conversation throughout which i had written to mimick the fast-paced action of real life dialogue is often confusing in this medium. The only panel i tinted Hespera’s skintone in came out embarassingly muddy. There’s some far from perfect quirks for sure. But, i nonetheless feel pretty satisfied with how i managed to portray the amount of complex emotions that i was juggling in these pages. There’s a common theme of intimacy through each of these scenes, all with their own dynamics. Though the panels are full of errors and i’m pretty confident i didn’t communicate it clearly enough, i adore the panels of imagined kisses that never took place.

Additional technical notes:

-if it wasn’t clear enough, the timeline takes place after Ian Curtis had taken his own life
-Lucifer is referencing the idiom “The Devil takes the hindmost”, it’s like the old-timey folks version of “stay in your lane”
-Gabriel’s Killing Joke outfit is terribly anachronistic -but here’s the thing: he looks cute.
-i’m pretty sure Azrael’s mention of yokai is the first reference to other mythical beings existing?
-i can’t get enough of anytime Samm/Lou demonstrates that he was never cut out for cold weather 😊

What’s Next: i wanna give myself a low-stakes task to keep the ball rolling and not lose the momentum i’ve regained since my mental health crash so the next update is going to be a continuation of the Four Consorts articles, this time featuring Naamah. i’d also began a continuation of GOOD ANGELS with a short called BAD DEVILS for this year’s April Fool’s, which unfortunately got derailed within a few days after new information came out that necessitated me attending to my friends. And even though this year’s April 1st has already passed, i’ve decided Fuck It, i’m gonna pick up where i left off with the BAD DEVILS short to release after Naamah gets published.
